The Grisly Cartoon Film Ending That Lingers Fans
Among all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I’ve personally viewed, nothing has stuck with me as much as the dread-soaked finale of the viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, the Spanish writer-director crafted a dark, melancholy , often savage universe with a few small , forlorn hints of optimism.
While The Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a drive to push the medium further, the director explained that it was more an effort to communicate a global, cross-cultural theme regarding “the shared root of all wars.”
That message is conveyed through a group of colorful pastel bears , obviously inspired by a well-known line of cuddly figures.
Maturing in a society focused on warmongering and the military-industrial complex, numerous these creatures are consumed by exterminating unicorns, due to a sacred text which states the bears they used to be kings of the forest, until the unicorns forced them out.
Others did not entirely fallen for the brainwashing, , would rather sample drugs and fornicate in the forest.
In contrast to their friendly counterparts, these colorful critters show sexual organs , clear urges.
For a certain notably brutal, cynical bear, Bluey, the battle with unicorns becomes a path to control — and particularly to authority above his gentler, kinder brother Tubby.
Bluey acts as a tormentor , an apparent sociopath , and as fear dominates his squad and takes his fellow soldiers one by one, he seizes progressively control on his own behalf, via progressively bloody, destructive ways.
Simultaneously, the horned creatures are experiencing their own nightmare, through a spreading, harmful creature in their habitat.
“In the early stages, it feels like a humorous movie,” the director stated. “However it turns into a more dramatic and sorrowful film. And ultimately, it transforms into a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars begins similar to one of the most whimsical movies from a renowned animator, which find a mischievous joy in permitting animated figures curse, fire weapons, or engage sexually.
Then it evolves into closer to a darker movie by that same director, featuring progressively visual gore , a palpable relation to genuine suffering of war.
Ultimately, it is an outright theatrical horror carnage.
The horror that turns this a perfect Halloween watch starts well before than that description suggests.
Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore lovers of violence, for fans of graphic films who desire to see something they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a story that offers unflinching brutality.
View it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the finale will dig under your skin and take up residence there.
